Usher In 2020 at the Havre de Grace Duck Drop

You’re probably aware of the famous New Year’s Eve ball drop in New York City, but have you also heard of the Havre de Grace Duck Drop? It’s a unique–and humorous–local take on one of the most famous New Year’s Eve celebrations. For the past 19 years, a large wooden duck strung with holiday lights has been lowered at the stroke of midnight, while celebrants cheer in the street. Why a duck? It’s a nod to the important role that waterfowl have always played in the region (ecologically and economically), and it adds a fun bit of local color to the celebration.

The event is always free (and family friendly) and after the duck drops you’ll be able to enjoy a fireworks show. Keep in mind that the duck drop has moved to a new venue this year: it’ll be at Concord Point Lighthouse. Music and entertainment start at 10 pm.
